What Is L..I.N.K?
L.I.N.K is Leading Internships for New Knowledge. For L.I.N.K, Animas students chose from a wide variety of jobs or hobbies they wish to partake in for 3 weeks in March. Once we start we immerse ourselves in the real working world learning new skills and gaining new knowledge for the things we are interested in. It gives us a huge insight to what our daily lives could be if we had a job in that field and helps us understand what we want to do when we are older.
For my internship I worked at a laboratory called Cedar Diagnostics in Durango. They are part of Animas Surgical Hospital so most of my work was for patients and people in my community. They have a very small lab but they do a lot. They even get samples to test from Idaho. I worked in the micro-biology part of the lab for the majority of my internship. I learned so much while I was there and met some really amazing people. In micro-biology the lab makes culture plates to grow organisms from patients urine and blood samples. This way they can try to isolate the bacteria on a growing culture plate to determine what someone has in their body. They have the ability to change lives and it was an inspiring process to see.
